The scholarship was officially announced during the 20th Anniversary of the Security Matters Conference, sponsored by CFSB, on April 23 at the Patterns of Distinction Awards Luncheon. During the event, CFSB team members presented a donation to the National Advisory Board for Cyber Security at Murray State University, alongside family members of Wes Kerr, symbolizing a shared commitment to honoring his legacy and investing in future generations.
This scholarship honors the life and legacy of Wes Kerr by investing in the next generation of cybersecurity professionals, an increasingly critical field that protects businesses, communities, and individuals in today’s digital world.
“Our goal with this initial contribution is to do more than give, we want to lead,” said Dana Howard, Vice President and Director of Marketing at CFSB. “By stepping up as the first donation towards the Wes Kerr Cyber National Advisory Board Scholarship Fund, we hope to inspire others to join us in honoring Wes’ legacy while creating meaningful opportunities for students who will shape the future of cybersecurity. Wes was deeply committed to this program and the students within it, and through this scholarship, his legacy will continue by providing the same genuine support he so generously gave.”
“For more than a decade, Wes served on our National Advisory Board, and our program would not be where it is today without him,” said Michael Ramage, Director of the Murray State Cyber Education and Research Center. “No matter what was happening in his own life, Wes continued to show up and support others. I am grateful for his friendship, I am grateful for his support, and I am thankful this scholarship will keep his memory alive for years to come.”
CFSB’s investment reflects its continued commitment to education, workforce development, and strengthening the communities it serves. By supporting Murray State’s Cybersecurity and Network Management Program, the bank is contributing to a pipeline of highly skilled professionals prepared to meet the growing demand for cybersecurity expertise across the region and beyond.
The Wes Kerr Cyber National Advisory Board Scholarship is designed as a lasting tribute, with the potential to grow through additional contributions from community members, businesses, and organizations who wish to honor Kerr’s impact and invest in student success.
CFSB encourages others to consider contributing to the scholarship fund, ensuring its long-term impact and expanding opportunities for future generations of Racer students.
