The University of Kentucky College of Engineering Paducah Campus has unveiled the new CFSB Snack Attack Station, a daily resource designed to support students with complimentary, nourishing snacks while they study.
The Snack Attack Station, sponsored by Community Financial Services Bank (CFSB), is located in a common study area and is restocked weekly with individually packed, protein-filled snacks, fresh fruit, a coffee bar, and other “grab-and-go” items. This initiative addresses the growing challenge of food insecurity faced by many college students both nationally and locally.
To officially mark the opening, CFSB and UK Paducah hosted a ribbon cutting and reception with the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce on September 24. Surrounded by students, faculty, and campus leaders, the celebration highlighted the importance of community partnerships and the positive impact the Snack Attack Station will have on engineering students.
“Many students attending UK Paducah are first-generation college students. Some students have families to support or family farms to run while being engineering students,” said Sarita Buchanan, Director of Recruitment and Career Services at UK Paducah. “We want to do everything we can to remove barriers that may impact their success in the program. Having the CFSB Snack Attack Station is a great way to give them a boost and help keep their minds fueled while they work.”
Engineering students are known for their demanding academic schedules, often remaining on campus late into the evenings to complete projects and study. The Snack Attack Station provides a convenient way to help students stay energized and focused during those long hours.
“CFSB has played a vital role in the success of our students! From supporting freshmen orientations to providing financial literacy courses for our engineering students – and now building this beautiful Snack Station on campus – you continue to make a meaningful impact,” said Dr. Y. Charles Lu, Director of the UK Paducah Campus. “We are deeply grateful for your care, generosity, and commitment to our students’ success. We will never forget our beginnings, and we will always remember our mission: to serve the people and the community that made this school possible.”
For CFSB, the Snack Attack Station is another extension of its commitment to investing in the well-being and success of the region.
“As a former administrator at the UK Paducah program, I have seen the direct impact of food insecurity with numerous students throughout the years,” said Jennifer McIntosh, Business Development for the CFSB McCracken County team. “CFSB wants to ensure that UK Paducah engineering students are well-fueled and ready to learn. We are honored to partner with UK Paducah to support some of this region’s brightest engineering students.”
The UK College of Engineering Paducah Campus, which first welcomed students 27 years ago, continues to thrive thanks to strong community partnerships. The CFSB Snack Attack Station is the latest example of how collaboration between education and local organizations creates opportunities for students to succeed close to home while preparing to impact the future.
